Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport

With so much travel information available now, many travellers choose to depart from Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport. Not only are some flight fares cheaper there, the airport often has more options for domestic destinations in China. Below we explain in detail the 5 main transport methods from Hong Kong to Shenzhen Bao’an Airport — including price, travel time and schedule.

1. MTR (Hong Kong) + Shenzhen Metro

The most economical and reliable way is to take the Hong Kong MTR to the Shenzhen border, then switch to Shenzhen Metro. For example: take Hong Kong MTR to Futian Port, then Shenzhen Metro Line 4 or Line 10 to Futian Port station, then transfer to Line 11 direct to the airport station. For adult fares: Hong Kong MTR via Octopus card to Lok Ma Chau station (farthest stop) is under HK$65. The Shenzhen Metro portion costs RMB 8 (about HK$9). Combined cost is under HK$74 in total.

According to user-reports on Xiaohongshu, if you board at Mong Kok East at 6:00 am, you can arrive at the airport at about 7:35 — a journey of ~1 h 35 m.

As for the Hong Kong MTR schedule: from the station just before the border, the earliest train leaves at 6:00 am, and the last service at 23:11. That means the first train will reach the port around 6:10 am; the last around 10:21 pm. This schedule suits most early-morning and late-night flights.

2. MTR (Hong Kong) + Shenzhen Airport Bus

Take Hong Kong MTR to Lok Ma Chau, cross the border at Futian Port, then walk ~6–8 minutes to the Cross-Border City Passenger Terminal. From there take the Airport Express Line A10 directly to the airport (around 30 minutes), fare RMB 25. There are 15 departures daily, first at 08:00, last at 22:00.

3. Cross-Border Coach

Several coach companies such as Yongdong Intercity, China Travel Bus, and HuanDao cross-border lines operate direct routes to the airport. For example, from Tsuen Wan (TakHoi Street) the first departure is around 08:00, last around 18:30; every 30 minutes, 22 trips per day; fare approx HK$120. Travel time is about 1–2 hours depending on boarding location. Note: most cross-border coaches run during daytime (07:00–19:00) and no very early morning or midnight services.

5. Cross-Border Car or Ride-Hailing Service

Another option is to book a cross-border car. Some users suggest booking from Shenzhen after crossing the border for lower cost. Or you can book a Hong Kong-based cross-border car company that picks you at Hong Kong and drives you to the airport. One company with good reviews offers WhatsApp contact and ensures drivers meet you at the port even on holidays.

Hotel Suggestion Near the Airport

If you’re traveling with children or want to avoid rushing on flight day, consider staying the night before at a hotel near the airport. A good value “near-airport pick” is Hyatt Place Shenzhen Airport. According to Trip.com, one night costs about HK$400-500. The hotel is located at the east side of Terminal 3 (near Metro Station Exit C); inline walkway to the airport terminal takes about 5 minutes from ground transport centre Gate 14.
